soft wicker chairs /
and half-eaten eggplant,
mother’s favorite china /
the acrid taste of tear gas,
sudanese boys playing ball in the street /
the half-moon arc of the أَذَان*,
the slow twitch of the finger /
the up and down,
the brother killed by the bomb.
all of these / collecting dust
as things that have yet to happen.
