Jonah Moves Back In

Sometimes you visit a place
and know that it's home.
It was so warm there,
three days returned to the womb.

So I am getting on the boat.
I'm waiting for the seas to become
angry again, 
for the whale to dance 
back to me.
I have brought extra pillows;

It's time to relocate there.

 When first he swallowed me,
I cursed the darkness, 
prayed for release, for forgiveness,
but later the candle ignited over my head

and I realized that my solitude there
was actually how a hug feels
when the giver has no arms
but still needs to show you what 
safe
means.


I am planning my next few years 
learning to train plankton
to harmonize.  I am going to
make a bed of driftweed and kelp.
This is where I belong,

putting the ocean to my ear,
hearing the sound of seashells,
part of something much bigger.
